چکیده
Abstract The Neotropical Neoponera laevigata species-group is revised. This group can be separated from others in the genus by means of a new key to species–groups. We propose two species, N. gojira sp. nov. , and mashpi latter being usually confused with its putative sister (Smith). small, termite-feeding now contains five taxa. provide comprehensive redescriptions for known castes three previously together images notes about intraspecific morphological variation, biology, distribution taxa here treated. reveal external features genitalia males. first contribution en route better understanding systematics this charismatic ponerine genus.

The Tetramorium tortuosum species group (Hymenoptera, Formicidae, Myrmicinae) revisited - taxonomic revision of the Afrotropical T. capillosum species complex
In this study we revise the taxonomy of the Tetramorium tortuosum species group members encountered in the Afrotropical region, which we have placed in its own subgroup: the Tetramorium capillosum species complex. We re-describe the two previously known species Tetramorium capillosum Bolton and Tetramorium tabarum Bolton, and describe the new species Tetramorium hecate sp. n. The geographic dis...
متن کاملAnalysis of Protein Composition and Bioactivity of Neoponera villosa Venom (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)
Ants cause a series of accidents involving humans. Such accidents generate different reactions in the body, ranging from a mild irritation at the bite site to anaphylactic shock, and these reactions depend on the mechanism of action of the venom. The study of animal venom is a science known as venomics. Through venomics, the composition of the venom of several ant species has already been chara...
متن کاملA new species of the Aenictus wroughtonii group (Hymenoptera, Formicidae) from South-East China
A new species of army ant from the Aenictus wroughtonii group is described and illustrated based on the worker caste. Aenictus gutianshanensis Staab, sp. n. is known form a single colony collected in the subtropical mixed evergreen broad-leaved forest of the Gutianshan National Nature Reserve, South-East China. The new species is probably most closely related to A. vieti Jaitrong & Yamane, 2010...
متن کاملInordinate Spinescence: Taxonomic Revision and Microtomography of the Pheidole cervicornis Species Group (Hymenoptera, Formicidae)
The ant genus Pheidole-for all of its hyperdiversity and global ubiquity-is remarkably conservative with regard to morphological disparity. A striking exception to this constrained morphology is the spinescent morphotype, which has evolved multiple times across distantly related lineages of Indoaustralian Pheidole. The Pheidole cervicornis group contains perhaps the most extraordinary spinescen...
متن کاملSystematics of the Monomorium rothsteini Forel species complex (Hymenoptera: Formicidae), a problematic ant group in Australia.
A recent molecular, morphological and distributional analysis of Monomorium rothsteini demonstrated that it comprises many separately evolving lineages that could be recognised morphologically and/or genetically based on mitochondrial DNA sequences. Based on these results M. rothsteini is revised, resulting in four species being brought out of synonymy (M. bogischi Wheeler, M. leda Forel, M. hu...
